The plan for my Influencer Strategy is to emphasize the “Why” of my innovation plan. The Why is “why are we here, what are we doing?”
The answer is to prepare our students the best we can for their professional career.
The results of my innovation plan and my influencer strategy is to promote and encourage students to produce authentic work for a personal e-Portfolio to enhance their job seeking opportunities.
My Influencer Strategy is the departmental implementation of student e-Portfolios and to convince instructors to use a COVA model of organizing for their teaching.
Plan:
- Bridge the gap between classroom work and professional content by incorporating the use of an e-Portfolio for all Communication majors.
- Influence college and departmental leadership to support e-Portfolio implementation.
- Influence professors and instructors to adopt a COVA method for teaching organization to implement e-Portfolios.
- Training helps instructors teach more effectively.
Strategy:
- Behavioral factors appeal to the instructors sense of what is best for students – Are we preparing them for their future? Are students getting a valuable education?
- Training and preparation: The behavioral factor to emphasize is that teachers and students can monitor a student’s progress throughout their degree plan and time within the department.
- An e-Portfolio already converges with current student work assignments.
- An e-portfolio enhances teacher and learner engagement – it shows we care about the students.
- An e-Portfolio helps the student to transition from student to graduate status.
Reflection:
The chief concern I have for my innovation plan is to overcome negative deviants that see their work and student’s work only through the perspective that communication is primarily a rhetorical field on academia and that qualitative research is the primary concern of teaching.
I am still confident that having the support of my chairperson and my dean will help the plan’s success, I worry that it may take a long time to implement several changes.
